Now is the time to act.
Send an email today and tell Congress that it must abolish and ban the bulk collection of data on the telecommunications of the people of this country and the world.
The surge of public outrage, both in the United States and from around the world, has created a new political dynamic.
The NSA and other intelligence agencies have been lying. With each passing day and with each new revelation, their political support is unraveling as the politicians backing them move to distance themselves.
In fact, the revelations have created a major and evolving crisis for the White House and for the members of Congress who have acted as the stalwart supporters and shield for the NSA leadership.
There are times in the political process when the intervention by a grassroots opposition can be decisive. This is one of those times.
Just last July, Congress narrowly voted to endorse the NSA domestic spying program.
Now both houses of Congress will debate and vote on the USA Freedom Act. The bill has been introduced in the Senate by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D.-Vt.). Leahy chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and describes the purpose of the law as ending the bulk collection of Americans' communications records, and imposing other safeguards and oversight over the NSA and other intelligence agencies.
We believe that the people of this country and the people of the world want this entire surveillance state to be dismantled. All loopholes and windows need to be shut in any proposed legislation so that this bulk data collection spy program is ended completely. It was constructed in secret because it is illegal and is despised by the majority of the people of the country. Its existence is a negation of democracy and our most cherished freedoms, including the right to privacy.
Ed Snowden did his part in exposing the truth and now we must act to make the change. We can do it!
Please send an email today to your elected representatives. It takes a minute of your time but it can make a big difference.
Tell them that you demand that the bulk collection of data must be ended.
Forward this email to tell your friends to also contact their representatives.
